Langya Mountain Scenic Area opens free to Chuzhou locals
Updated: 2014-06-10

On May 31, Langya Mountain Scenic Area Administration Committee in the city of Chuzhou, Anhui province, announced that according to Chuzhou municipal government's requirement on making Langya Mountain's ecological, historical and cultural resources better able to serve the public, starting from June 1, the Scenic Area will be open free to Chuzhou locals.

Chuzhou residents with an ID card or driver's license, staff working in Chuzhou with a residence permit or temporary residence permit, and students studying in Chuzhou with a student ID, can now can enter the scenic Area and visit the attractions (Langya Temple excluded) for free.

The free-entry policy is gaining high popularity. On May 30, Langya Mountain Scenic Area received 5,000 tourists, and ticket sales reached 71,800 yuan ($11,500). On June 1, the number of tourists was 7,000 and ticket sales reached 45,000 yuan.

Some visitors expressed concern that the increase in the number of tourists may put the scenic area's reception capacity and daily management under pressure. In this regard, Langya Mountain Scenic Area Administration Committee responded that the scenic area will remain closed at night. They pledged to further strengthen management and create a pleasant environment for visitors.

In addition, the Administration Committee reminded visitors that swimming, discarding cigarette butts and litter, applying graffiti, deforestation, hunting wild animals, robbing tree roots and herbs, and robbing or damaging cultural relics are strictly prohibited.

The Northern Song Dynasty writer Ouyang Xiu referred to a "Drunkard Pavilion", so Chuzhou Langyashan and Drunkard Pavilion are legendary.

Langya Mountain is located south west of Chuzhou city, Anhui province. It is a National Forest Park, National Scenic Area and 4A Tourism Attraction. The mountain is one of Anhui's five biggest scenic attractions. Along with mountain scenery, rivers and forest, the area also contains the Zuiweng Pavilion, named after the Northern Song Dynasty poet Ouyang Xiu (1007–1072 CE).
