Updated: 2014-01-02

Anhui Quality Control Bureau recently announced that Anhui province is expected to increase eight national geographical indication products.

Experts from General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) has made technical certification for eight products declared by Anhui province this year, which include Wan'an Compass, Huangpo Lake Hairy Crab, Nvshan Lake Hairy Crab, Bright Green Imperial Wine, Ann tea, Xuan Wine made in small cellars, Ningguo dried bamboo shoots, Panji Crisp Melon, and the above products has passed the investigation for national protected geographical indication products .

Protected geographical indication product originates in France and has a history of 1000 years in the world. Geographical indication product is a special commodity with distinctive regional features. In addition to the general economical nature, it also has historical and cultural inheritance. Most of the manufacturing enterprises of protected geographical indication products are mainly small and medium-sized enterprises, with agricultural products as their main production. Declared products must be local products grown, cultivated or produced by local unique traditional crafts. After confirmation, they will be appropriately protected.

It is learned that Anhui Province has 32 national geographical indication products, and the total number will reach 40 when the above 8 products are officially approved. However, many famous products in China history, such as Keemun Black Tea, She Inkstone, Hui Ink, Xuan Pen, etc., are not yet included in the protected geographical indication products. Therefore, the province strives to increase the number of geographical indication products to 100 in five years.
