Pelican follows swan, ignores female counterpart
Updated: 2013-12-03

A male white pelican seems to have fallen in love with a female swan that he follows around every day at Hefei Wildlife Park in Anhui province.

The keeper of the park said the pelican drives other swans away to eat with the swan. His skin is also becoming brighter, which indicates that he is in rut.

The pelican’s behavior has triggered the anger of other swans, and left his female counterpart melancholy. The female white pelican stays in a corner silently every day.

The park said the pelican and the swan would be separated if they continue to stay together as their relationship would hinder the only two white pelicans there from reproducing.
