Hefei celebrates first Seniors' Day
Updated: 2013-10-16

Scenic spots in the city of Hefei, Anhui province, launched a series of activities respecting elderly people on the first national Seniors’Day on October 13.

Hefei Botanical Garden offered free entry for seniors over 60. The garden also deliberately equipped five guides for seniors who provided four free guide sessions for them around the garden. Seniors also enjoyed free fresh chrysanthemum tea and osmanthus tea from the information center.

Hefei Three Kingdoms Relics Park offered free entry to seniors over 60 as well and threw a show themed “China Dream, Happy City” to entertain visitors.

The Chinese government made the ninth day of the ninth lunar month, the Double Ninth Festival, a day to honor senior citizens in 1989, but this year's Seniors' Day is the first time the holiday has been observed since it was written into the revised law on protection of the rights and interests of the elderly.
