Two ancient tombs found in Lu'an

Two adjoining tombs believed to be more than 2,000 years old will be excavated at a construction site on East Gaocheng Road in the Anhui province city of Lu'an.

The black wooden roof of the southern tomb has been unearthed, and the northern tomb is covered with waterproof cloth. The Anhui Provincial Cultural Relics and Archaeology Institute began excavating the two tombs as soon as they were discovered by construction workers, Wang Xin, who is in charge of the excavation, said.

More than 100 cultural relics dating back to the period of China’s Warring States (475-221 BC) already have been discovered in the northern tomb, including rare bronze vessels. The tomb's three-room structure is the first of its kind that has been found in the city.
