4. Xiaojiaqiao Shortcake

Anqing specialties

Xiaojiaqiao shortcake is shaped like a shell, is golden in color, has a crisp taste and can be stored for a long time.

It’s said that in 1921, a famous Chinese writer Yu Dafu went to Anqing to teach at the Anqing Law and Politics College. He had two interests in life, one was walking in Linghu Park in the evening and another is Xiaojiaqiao shortbread. He bought several pieces of shortbread as midnight snack every day.

 

5. Tianzhu Duck

Tianzhu Duck is a specialty food of Tianzhu Mountain in Anhui province. Its main ingredient, the farm duck grows in the wild and feeds on spring water and venison.

By only using natural ingredients, Tianzhu Duck has a compact formula which combines traditional craft and technique ensuring its delicious taste.

6. Tong Cheng cabbage cake

The Tongcheng cabbage cake is a traditional breakfast which earned a high reputation in the early Ming and Qing dynasties. At that time, the most favorite breakfast of residents was a bowl of tea and a plate of cabbage cake. There were many breakfast shops and tea houses along the street with booming businesses.

Tong Cheng cabbage cake has a very exquisite making process. Soak 70% glutinous rice and 30% sticky rice in warm water for half a day. Pick up and drain, then pestle them into powder. Carefully select the fresh cabbages and bunch them into mash. Get rid of the stems and then mix them with lard and sugar. The steamed cabbage cake has a shape of a Jade carving with a soft stuffing. The cake is sweet but not greasy.
