It was built by Mi Fu (1051-1107), an outstanding calligrapher of the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127), when he was in charge of the military affairs of Wuwei county.

This temple is famous for the precious stone inscriptions, most of which were hand- written by the great calligraphers of different historical periods.

With the specific records of the renovation and expansion of the hall, these inscriptions carved on the steles are of incalculable historical value. In the 1960s, all the 150-plus inscribed steles that were well preserved in the memorial hall were inlaid on the walls of its corridors, including some of the Jin (265-420) and Tang (618-907) dynasties.

Such a move was instrumental in helping to protect these treasures for as long as possible. In addition, the Chinese Ink Pond, Inkstone-Throwing Pavilion, and Worshipped Stone in the temple also bear witness to the legendary stories on Mi Fu, a rectitude and hardworking official.
