Monkey King Tea Park officially opens for picking
Updated: 2014-04-21

On April 15, tea farmers from Houkeng village, Xinming town,in Huangshan, Anhui province, organized an official opening ceremony for the Monkey King Tea (Taiping Houkui) picking this year.

Monkey King Tea is regarded as one of the Top 10 teas in China, and originated from Houkeng village. Growing on the foothills of the Huangshan Mountain, this tea embodies a perfect combination of startling elegance, supreme quality, and excellent flavor.

The picking season normally kicks off around Grain Rain solar term and lasts for 20 days. The time it appears in the market is later than other green teas.

Since the picking method is a handmade craft, it has been listed as a national intangible cultural heritage. Normally, the tea is targeted at the high-end market and is packaged in large bags. But this year, subject to the new situation in the market, tea enterprises have tried to explore opportunities in the public market. They have changed to smaller packages so that ordinary people can afford to drink it.

On the opening day, many private buyers arrived at Houkeng village early to purchase the first batch of Monkey King Tea.

As reported, the tea prices this year were flat compared with the previous year.
