Public transportation gains favor in Wuhu

More and more people prefer to take the bus when they travel. City Bus Group in the city of Wuhu, Anhui province, recently announced that in 2013 bus lines in Wuhu city operated across 80.97 million kilometers, an increase of 6.18 percent from last year. Passenger flow reached 181 million, an increase of 2.5 percent. Daily passenger flow was about 550,000. Travel mode split rate rose to 22 percent, and the annual complaint rate declined about 18 percent compared with last year.

Currently, there are 88 bus lines in Wuhu city, some of which reach the city’s suburbs. Wuhu has realized "urban and rural transport integration." Suburban residents can enjoy the same treatment as urban residents when they travel. Seizing the opportunity to build livelihood projects, construction of two bus stops, including Shenxiang and Yuxikou, and the procurement and installation of 14 automatic washing machines were completed last year. Bus service capabilities have been further enhanced.

There are now 14 bus card service locations. Annual evaluation procedures for senior citizen cards were further simplified. Bus Group promoted senior citizen cards in communities and student cards in campuses. The cards implement free transfers within 40 minutes, a "pregnant women badge," and free rides for the disabled and candidates taking high school or college entrance exams. To implement the service benchmarking project, the first star driver, star line service will be listed. To promote the modernization of public transportation through informationization, Wuhu city completed technical transformation of mobile phone cards last year. and online recharge system, unifying operational kilometer, fuel consumption, IC card and pocketbook data into GPS platform management.

In November last year, a public bike rental system was transferred to the Wuhu bus management department. Currently, throughout the whole city, 553 public bike rental places have been put into use. A total of 12,000 bicycles are in operation. 60,000 people apply for leases card, and maximum rent per day exceeds 58,000 times. For vehicle maintenance, real-time scheduling and other issues, the group developed a practical management approach. Service complaints are declining steadily, and citizen satisfaction is gradually increasing.
