Stay at home, travel around the world—Anhui province tries 'virtual tourism'
Updated: 2013-12-17

It is now possible to browse panoramic landscapes around tourist attractions with the click of a mouse. By creating mock-ups of tourist routes based on 3D technology, users can travel around the world without leaving their home.

During the 2013 Anhui Tourism Informatization Meeting, many cities in Anhui province tried out virtual tourism, integrating multimedia technology with virtual tourism via 3D real scenery technology, virtual-reality technology and high-altitude panorama technology.

The Anhui Tourism Bureau has been experimenting with virtual tourism since 2011. On the Anhui tourism website, tourism areas at the 4A level within the province all offer 360 degree panoramic photos. Netizens can have an immersive experience online. Virtual tourism has been developed in many cities in the province.

According to the Huainan tourism bureau, several key tourist attractions have realized virtual tourism. There is even an online tour guide named Doubao. Huangshan and various other places have also established a virtual tourism system.
