Situated in the west of Huainan City, 30 km from the downtown area, the tourism zone was originally built in the reign of Emperor Jingdi (156-43 BC) of the Western Han Dynasty.
Legend has it that three brothers by the surname of Mao performed penance here and later became immortals, hence the name Maoxian (Mao Immortals) Cave.
The scenic area is surrounded by water on three sides. With an area of 16 square km, it is a scenic area of Cambrian mountain where natural scenery mingles well with human landscapes. The main tourist attractions in the scenic area include the ancient Maoxian Cave, Xiangshan Temple, Shoutang Pass, First Valley of the Huaihe River, Black Dragon Pool, the ancient Feishui Battlefield, and the ruins of Biandan City in the Spring and Autumn Period (772-481BC). The area is full of Huaihe riverine culture, with the natural landscapes and human landscapes adding radiance and beauty to each other.
